Greefspan Solar is located an hour out of the town of Douglas, in the Northern Cape Province, our country’s renewable energy hub. This 11MW solar project supplies close on 27GWh’s of clean power – enough to power over 7 000 average homes, each year.
In addition to supporting South Africa’s green energy production portfolio, Greefspan Solar is committed to supporting development projects to benefit it’s nearby communities.
ABOUT US
Located within the Northern Cape’s Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, this solar PV plant extends across 50 hectares and feeds into the neighbouring Eskom Greefspan Substation.
Located approximately 60 kilometers from the town of Douglas, on the road to Prieska, Greefspan Solar generates power from its 45 954 installed PV modules.
Construction kicked-off during March 2013, with commercial operations commencing just over a year later in April 2014, as part of the government’s first round of the country’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

COMMUNITY
The Economic Development Programmes, funded by Greefspan Solar, directly benefit communities of Douglas and Campbell, and extend to incorporate local socio-economic initiatives that focus on education and skills development.
Our flagship programmes aim to serve both learners and teachers, by creating opportunities that stimulate and enhance education, with a focus on Maths and Science development.
Through targeting 10 schools across the Douglas area, we strive to support basic tuition and enrichment programmes that offer learners opportunities generally associated with private school environments.
