The vision to uplift the Douglas community through education was born during the solar project’s construction phase in 2013. Led by Community Operations Manager, Stephen Murefu, the socio-economic development programme has since then been formalised, but the mandate remains aligned to the belief that education holds the key.
“Our mission is to serve teachers, create opportunities and help learners to have fun whilst building on their education. This is in support of our overarching vision, which is to raise qualified, financially independent leaders in rural Northern Cape,” explains Murefu.
The initiatives which are implemented across 10 community schools in the Douglas area, are varied but as a whole remain focused on Maths, Science, and Literacy.
